In the United States alone, rats cause roughly $20 billion in damages yearly. That’s nearly twice as large as the entire economy of the Bahamas! Cities are a huge part of this problem, when there is a large number of people and homes concentrated in a small area, it’s a huge benefit for rats. These social animals love to be around free food and people, and those living in cities or even rural towns are potentially in a rat’s way. While these little guys don’t seem to pose much damage at first glance, there’s a lot more happening behind the scenes. Continue reading below for the potential damage that rats can cause.
Nobody asks for rats or mice to visit their home or office space. Here in Los Angeles, mouse removal, rat removal and rodent extermination are common requests, since homes and offices are a plentiful source of food, water and shelter.
For sanitary reasons, mice and rats should be captured as soon as possible so that you can experience peace of mind knowing that your house or office is rodent-free. A professional, licensed technician from All Star is the best solution to your rodent issues. So if you are wondering how to get rid of rats or how to get rats out, you are in the right place!
Rodents (aka disease-carrying, destructive chewing “machines”) can reproduce very quickly. That’s why our priority at All Star is to serve you as soon as possible, get the job done quickly and right – the first time. You can visit theEnvironmental Protection Agency to learn more about how to control a rat problem.
Rats are notoriously pathogenic creatures, carrying diseases and harmful pathogens which can spread. There is one calledhantavirus, another is rat-bite fever, the plague, you name it. And rats likely spread them. While the rats themselves can spread these diseases, their feces and urine pose an even higher risk of danger. After all, you will probably notice rats much more easily than their half-inch droppings.
Nearly 20% of undetermined fires in the US are thought to have originated from rodent damage, so this problem is much more common than one might think. If you wonder how that’s even remotely true, rats continuously need to file their long teeth down. Wires are a plentiful source of biting material, usually thin enough for rats to fit their mouths around and chomp away.
If rats can fit their mouths on something, they’ll bite at it, causing potential electric issues, fire damage, shocks and more. So it’s very important to proactively look for wire damage since these exposed copper strands are what can be the source of electrical outages, electrocution of family members, pets or workers, disconnect key power and more.
While rats are usually quite little, they can also cause a few structural issues. Rodents don’t care where they make their homes; they’ll often crawl into walls, ceilings, attics, insulated spaces and beyond. In many cases, this could result in them slowly chewing through important foundational areas or supports.
Structural beams, flooring and ceilings are all at risk of either caving or falling in, thanks to rats. In addition to the danger this poses for you, the damage left behind can leave entry spaces for other pests. When this happens, the problem moves from exclusively a rat problem to a much more complicated situation.
Rats often damage both important and unimportant aspects of your property. Bedding, heirlooms, your favorite stuffed animal; they’re all at risk. While home entry points and structural points are the most likely damage, rats will also ravage many other items in their path. These little rodents will chew on nearly anything, so you may need to replace common items on top of it.
This also includes food, a convenient “bonus” for rats that attracts and keeps them around. Nearby food will naturally attract rats, but it can also result in both the loss of food in the open and in storage. Rats leave behind feces, urine and hair when moving about your property, including within and around your food. If that weren’t enough, rats will chew past the food, eating everything from plastic containers to wood, paper and more! There’s a lot that could go wrong.
With these damages in mind, it’s important to protect you and your property from rats. Otherwise you may have some dirty, new freeloaders on your hands! All Star services homes and businesses within the Greater Los Angeles area and our team will happily solve your rat problem. These animals can be incredibly dangerous and damaging if left alone, but we will quickly get to work and remove the entire issue.
There was a terrible smell in my bathroom so I called a plumber who then recommended All Star Animal Trapping because the smell turned out to be a dead animal. I'm glad I called. The rep was friendly and professional. He removed a dead possum from under my bathtub and repaired a broken vent. I would absolutely use this company again.
Michael and Rob were nothing short of phenomenal. They came out in 105’ weather and installed a snake fence for us and cleared up a ton of the brushes that were easy hideout spots for rattlesnakes. I will 100% use these guys again and plan to recommend them to others as well. Thank you very much for your hard work!
Peter was awesome. Quick, left the place perfectly clean, and he even found a place for the poor stuck-in-our-wall kitten to go after rescuing her! Everyone I dealt with on the phone or in person were clear, polite, helpful and transparent about price. They will be my first call if we have any future issues. Have to add on Connor came out to follow up with a second kitten and cleared out our attic sealed everything up. He was amazing. Above and beyond doesn’t begin to describe it and it’s clear he cares so much about the animals he works with.
I had a snake show up unexpectedly, and All Star Animal Trapping was amazing! The technician arrived within just 10 minutes of my call — super fast! He was professional, calm, and clearly knew what he was doing. He quickly trapped, and removed the snake without any issues. Highly recommend this company if you ever need fast and reliable help with wildlife.
It all started with a rat that unfortunately decided to have my car's radiator hose for dinner. By sheer luck, I decided to pop my hood to check for fluid levels before leaving. Fortunately, Robert came through and inspected all points of entry in the garage and sealing up all potential access. Robert also performed a thorough house inspection and fabricated a brand new crawlspace entry door along with mesh screening several smaller areas throughout. The level of effort most def can't go unnoticed. Super happy customer.
What a fantastic experience it has been working with this company! I have had a family of opossums here at my house who were getting into things, and I also started seeing rodent droppings. I’m a huge animal lover and did not want to kill them, but didn’t know what to do. From the first moment I spoke with Iris on the phone, I knew this was the company for me. I have the highest praise for Pablo, Brandon, Luis R. and Connor, who came to my home and sealed up my house and are getting rid of the rats. We also just trapped the second possum this morning. He is in a humane cage right now and they are coming later to release him next to the one that they trapped and released yesterday because I know they are a family. If you have any issues with unwanted critters, this is definitely the place to go to for help. They are incredible at their job and they really care. Thank you everyone!
We had a nest of skunks beneath the house. And a raccoon. A contentious one. Need I draw you a picture? It quickly became necessary to alert visitors to the house, "Yes, we're aware the place smells like skunk. But we're working on it." And by "we" I mean Conner at All Star Animal Control. I had looked up the incredibly labor-intensive way of dealing with the situation and wondered, frankly, how is THAT going to happen? And then Connor made it happen. One way doors. Traps for the lollygaggers. (Sidebar: none of the wee beasties were killed.) By the time it was finished he had actually rebuilt the access to beneath the house so it was secure. The situation was handled in an efficient and professional manner and I couldn't recommend them more highly.
Peter and Joel were amazing! Went above and beyond effort level to help us solve our problem. They have passion and really care about what they do and shared a lot of helpful knowledge. Excited to move forward with a plan to successfully treat our problem and I will definitely review again one our process is complete. This initial inspection surpassed my expectations and they are both just such good people with great expertise!
All Star Animal Trapping came out to my house on Sunday evening to remove a skunk that made a home in my back yard Planter. Connor Merkovich was the technician who provided the service. He was prompt, knowledgeable, and quick to remove the skunk! I would highly recommend this company and will be calling them again if needed!
Connor and Joel were polite, professional and thorough. They showed all the areas where I had rodent issues and gave detailed explanations of their solutions. They inspected from the top of the roof to underneath the crawl space. I was impressed! This is my third time engaging their services and they do not disappoint. They even solved my coyote problems at my rental property.

When looking for the best methods to get rid of rats, you’ll find there are almost as many options out there as rats in Los Angeles.
Years of our experience have shown that the best way to get rid of rats is through snap traps. We used the best and most cost-efficient snap rat traps that work. They are considered humane traps because they kill the rodents instantly.
We also offer live, humane rat trapping in cases where we can use cage traps that don’t kill or harm the rodents. This is not the most effective way to get rats out but is an option for customer preference. Rodents can reproduce very quickly and live traps catch rodents slowly, making it difficult to keep up with the increase in rodent population. So this is not recommended when there is a big rodent infestation.
Using poison is a very inhumane way to kill rats as they don’t die instantly. Furthermore, rats will try to find shelter when they feel sick. As a result, they can get into the most remote places of your property, such as inside walls, crawl spaces or air ducts, and die there. This presents an even bigger problem because now there is a decomposing body creating terrible odors and promoting germs. And now that dead rat has to be located, removed and sanitation and decontamination services need to be performed to eliminate all traces of the dead rodent.
Besides being inhumane for the rodents, poison traps are also dangerous for other animals such as cats, dogs, birds, raccoons and other predators. If any of these animals consume the poison themselves or even the poisoned rat, they will get very sick and most likely die as well.
So again, live rat trapping is available in some cases but is not the most recommended method for infestations since rats reproduce very quickly and are considered pests. If you really want live trapping, we can provide that service. But keep in mind, this form of trapping is more expensive and can only be done if the degree of infestation is not extreme.
Plainly, snap traps are the best way to go about removing these poor little guys that have the misfortune to be at the bottom of the food chain.
Even if you don’t have rats or mice in your home, you can hire us to do a full house inspection. We can locate weak points and possible points of entry, and seal your house up tight to prevent any unwanted invasions or infestations, thus saving you major potential costs from damage in the future.
